Erin Rue of the Beer CPA joins us in this episode to talk about how she has build an amazing CPA practice by choosing a niche. Erin has a passion for craft beer and as a result has coupled that with her skills as a CPA to craft a business that helps the Pacific Northwest breweries and wineries. In this episode she talks about how the power of focus has had a huge impact.
Erin wants to not just help her customers with the technical tax and compliance requirements but also wants to help them grow their business and in the process achieve freedom.
The power of choosing a niche or narrowing the focus of what Erin does has enabled her to build a powerful business. Through knowing the exact needs of her customers has allowed her to connect with them a better level but also deliver the exact services they need.
Erin is also very clear in adopting flat upfront pricing. She has successfully implemented value pricing and believes that this also has helped her to improve her appeal the niche she wants to serve. On Erin’s website she is very clear about her pricing policy. And no she will not ever charge by the hour.
Another important aspect is that Erin uses her website to be a resource for her customers. There are a bunch of resources on the site which are targeted for her niche. In addition there is a members only section, monthly webinars and other events for her customers and prospective customers.
CPA’s are in the relationship business. We must never forget this. We can’t hide behind technology all the time. People have a thing about their money – it is very intimate and thus as an accountant we must respect and honour this.
Be more receptive to step outside your comfort zone. Do something uncomfortable. To build a great business do something different.
